Bike Lanes

Bike Lanes

Bike lanes in Victoria are a serious topic for debate. There is a lot of negative feeling towards them as they are currently not optimized. There are several accidents involving cyclists in the lane, and drivers. And every time this happens, the city pays millions to build new lanes to try and make it safer for the cyclists. Other than this being a waste of money, it doesn’t seem to be working. If the city truly wants to make bike lanes safer than they are now, then they need to take another look at how they are going about it. The city should be treating the cyclist as their own sort of vehicle, not like a car. If the cyclists are side by side with the cars then there will inevitably be an accident. To avoid this, the city should invest in isolated lanes with enough of a separation between the motor vehicles and the bikes. This would result in the city spending less money on constantly building new lanes and potentially, decrease the amount of accidents caused by them.
